FREEDOM THE AMERICAN WAY As part of America’s baby-boom generation, I have seen the subtle changes over many decades. There have been thousands of media accounts during my lifetime of people dying in pursuit of freedom. Hundreds of Germans died trying to get to freedom by tunneling under, crashing through, or flying over the Berlin Wall. Many Cuban and Haitians drowned when their makeshift rafts sank en route to America. Russians defectors were smothered while hiding in shipping crates trying to get to our shores. A Chinese escapee almost froze to death hiding in the wheel well of a jet plane on its way to the U.S. Yet today America is adopting many of the policies of the countries so many have fled.

The Two Sides of Freedom: Society and the Individual is another section by the author, who quotes “Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.” – Albert Einstein

In Chapter Five: Freedom: The Success Model; the author talks about an interview that he saw a few years after the fall of the Soviet Union and the toppling of the Berlin Wall, with a former Soviet official who visited the U.S. As part of a government delegation during the Cold War; he was asked what impressed him most about the U.S. during his visit. (I won’t spoil it for you, I’m sure you can guess what it was.)
